Alki Bakery

Worth visiting!

The first time I went to this place

Stupidly good (and enormous) cinnamon rolls, and they pull a pretty good latté too

Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport

Worth visiting!

Fine for a short layover

I was rerouted through CVG on a trip from Salt Lake City to Chicago in 2001. Made for a fine stopover, I suppose, especially since it allowed us to avoid a line of crazy snowstorms for the most part. But I wasn’t on the ground long enough to get a good idea of the airport.

Omaha

Worth visiting!

Brief visit on the way to Kansas City

We stopped here on our way to Kansas City, MO, in 1994 for our youth group’s 75th-anniversary celebration. Train ride from Salt Lake City to Omaha and then vans from Omaha to our destination, it was a blast.

Mill Creek

Worth visiting!

I live here

I haven’t marked Mill Creek as “want to go back” because, well, I do go back every day, by default.

Nice little town, a bit on the suburban-hell side for my tastes though. I like the area where I live, anyway; I’m about half a mile north of the Mill Creek Town Center development, which means easy access to local businesses and makes for relaxing weekends most of the time.

The Triple Door

Worth visiting!

Beautiful performance space and a great menu

Not only is the Mainstage performance space simply amazing, the menu and wine lists are spectacular. We saw Vienna Teng there in November 2005 and it was the most memorable live music performance I’ve ever witnessed.

San Juan

Worth visiting!

Only on airport layovers, though

I was in San Juan twice in a week in May/June 2002 on my way to and from St. Maarten. Only spent about five hours there total, and all in the airport, much of that in U.S. Customs inspections.

I certainly hope my airport experience wasn’t indicative of the entire city, or of Puerto Rico in general. If I went back to the Caribbean, I’d quite likely stop for a couple days in PR and have a better look at it.

Museum Of Glass

Worth visiting!

Beautiful glass, though not Chihuly's

This museum fascinated me. Some gorgeous glasswork, and the demonstrations of glassblowing were incredible, but the fact that Dale Chihuly’s work is spotlighted so much drives me nuts. His work is vastly overrated, doesn’t merit nearly the exposure it gets here.

Stick to non-Chihuly works and you’ll be amazed by the workmanship and originality.

Vashon Island

Worth visiting!

Strange

Unusual vibe on this island. We visited on a Sunday and it was quiet and detached and weird, its own little universe.

Bothell

Not worth visiting!

Good place to live, not worth a specific visit

I lived here for two years, 2002-04, had a good time. Nothing in Bothell worth visiting for, however; it’s a bedroom community in the Seattle area.

Columbia Winery

Worth visiting!

Huge tasting room, wonderful wines

Visited Columbia as part of the Spirit of Washington Dinner Train, which stops at the winery for tastings and tours. Our tastings were a bit rushed because of the crowds, but the tasting employees were full of information about the wines and the winery grounds, eager to answer questions.
