Acadia National Park

Worth visiting!

"You can't do the wrong thing"

That’s what our friend told us when we decided to visit Acadia – there was a lot to do, and everything was good fun. He was right – we enjoyed everything from hiking to popovers at the Jordan Pond House to making our own lobster feast.

Ireland

(in Europe)

Worth visiting!

Make your own tour.

We got a “drive yourself, stay in B&Bs where you end up” package, and it was a truly great way to see Ireland, even if you don’t kiss the Blarney Stone (ew!). 1100 kilometers in seven days, and ten rolls of film.

Cozumel

Worth visiting!

Off the beaten track is best.

We loved our honeymoon in Cozumel precisely because we were not cruise ship-hopping touristy types. Have you eaten Cajun food in Mexico? We did. We also shopped for fresh-made tortillas at the island’s biggest grocery, Jeeped our way over to the far side of the island after a harrowing run-in with a timeshare salesman, and stayed in a lovely non all-inclusive resort that would have felt like home, if home had a bar on the beach and a boat that went diving every day.

Paris

Worth visiting!

I spent April in Paris.

It was my sophomore year in college, but I still remember it as completely awesome.

Churchill

Worth visiting!

Would you like some tundraccino?

I spent a great five days in Churchill polar bear watching – it was the farthest north I’ve ever been and a real eye-opener. We rode around in converted school buses called “tundra buggies” and drank a mixture of cocoa and coffee called tundraccino to stay warm. My first real outdoorsy vacation!

Kentucky

Worth visiting!

So unexpectedly beautiful.

I’ve driven across KY twice on the way to visit friends – there’s no state I thought I’d like less that I ended up liking more – the roads are scenic and twisty, the food is great (stop for barbeque in Frankfort!) and the scenery is beautiful.

London

Worth visiting!

Four days wasn't enough.

I spent four days in London a few years ago: I had a great dinner at Rules, and another at Nobu. I went to The Design Museum and Harrod’s food halls. It was great; I would go back!
