"You can't do the wrong thing"

That’s what our friend told us when we decided to visit Acadia – there was a lot to do, and everything was good fun. He was right – we enjoyed everything from hiking to popovers at the Jordan Pond House to making our own lobster feast.

Ireland, Europe

Make your own tour.

We got a “drive yourself, stay in B&Bs where you end up” package, and it was a truly great way to see Ireland, even if you don’t kiss the Blarney Stone (ew!). 1100 kilometers in seven days, and ten rolls of film.

Cozumel, Quintana Roo

Off the beaten track is best.

We loved our honeymoon in Cozumel precisely because we were not cruise ship-hopping touristy types. Have you eaten Cajun food in Mexico? We did. We also shopped for fresh-made tortillas at the island’s biggest grocery, Jeeped our way over to the far side of the island after a harrowing run-in with a timeshare salesman, and stayed in a lovely non all-inclusive resort that would have felt like home, if home had a bar on the beach and a boat that went diving every day.
