This place has seen a lot — it’s the site of the Dome of the Rock and al-Aqsa mosque and it’s significant to Judaism, Islam, and Christianity. I don’t know, I just want to see a place that’s so important to these religions, a place that’s so contested and complicated.

It’s not so much that I want to smoke pot in front of police officers and hire prostitutes as it is that I want to see a place where these things happen. The Red Light District’s violent crime level is quite low, and I’d like to be able to offer that as proof when people tell me that I hate women because I’m in favor of the legalization of prostitution. Bah.

And besides, there’s more to Amsterdam than that district. It looks amazing in general. I just want to wander. I adore canals.

I’m taking a class on whether the Trojan War was history or myth. I kind of feel like if I were standing there, even if I couldn’t see anything, I’d have to say history.
