Montana

Worth visiting!

4th of July

Spent last year’s 4th at Bull Lake. Was the first time I’ve been jetskiing – LOVE it!!! Nothing like tearing accross the water at 80 mph tears streaming from your face.

There’s a lot to like about Montana, if you don’t mind being pretty alone. Such a huge state with such immense beauty everywhere, and no one wants to live here. I don’t quite get it, but I’m looking forward to going back.

Where are all the people?

I’ve been here three times in the past six months, and there’s a lot to like about it. The architecture is fantastic, the people are a little less ‘polished’ than NYC (i.e., guys who don’t wax their eyebrows,) and the chowda is awesome.

One big beef though – the place seems to shut down at 10!!! Three seperate occasions I’ve gone out at night, and it’s dead! You ask people, and they say “Ah, it’s too cold to be out,” or “It’s too rainy to be out,” or “It’s a Monday.” Seriously, it made Colorado Springs look like Las Vegas.

St. Patrick's Day...

Spent two nights in Wilmington while visiting a client. We stayed in a hotel right along the water, which was fantastic – walking in the sand is a pleasure I enjoy too rarely.

St. Patrick’s Day was spent bar-hopping down here. We grabbed a drink with our client (the guy’s a lot of fun) and then went to some dance club. Clubs are pretty much the same wherever you go, aren’t they…nothing stellar about it.

I’m looking forward to going back – it’s beautiful country.

I might end up here someday...

Spent time here with the girlfriend and LOVED it. It’s got all the charms of a large city, but it’s quiet enough to think. The downtown is cool and CLEAN – a big change from NYC. And Wriggleyville is fantastic. I had a great time, and I can’t wait to go back.

Home, sweet home...

This is where I’m living these days. Not much to look at, but the price is right.

A great place to live when you're young.

I’ve been here for almost a year now, and there’s a lot to love about it. The food, the laundry service, the intersting and talented people, the almost limitless oppportunity for fun and distraction.

I’ll be honest though – I’m starting to miss the mountains, being able to get away. I do love it here, but I doubt it will be the place to raise kids and settle down. Still, if you’re young and have a chance to spend some time here, by all means do so.

Colorado Springs

A place to grow up, a place to retire

Colorado Springs is the perfect ‘family town’ – there’s little crime, there’s a ton of family activities to enjoy, and the pace of life is very relaxed. This is where I grew up, and I really enjoyed it. Be prepared for a very conservative atmosphere – the town is home to more Christian headquarters than any other. And once you’ve entered the business world, you’re not likely to find much action. But if you’re looking for a world where everyone’s your neighbor and every day is sunny, you’d be hard pressed to find someplace better.

Boulder

My alma mater...

Went to CU for four years and loved every second of it. Your right at the base of the mountains, and just a stone’s throw away from amazing skiing. The Flatirons are a striking backdrop to the city and the school. The city has both a fantastic entrepreneurial climate and a bunch of crazy people protesting Nike by running around campus naked.

If you like the outdoors, like fun people and like the atmosphere of a small-yet-hip town, it doesn’t get better than Boulder.

Mountains, Ocean, Trees....Rain

If you don’t mind the feeling of very slowly drowning, you’ll love it here. I spent six months here on something of a hiatus and there’s a lot to love. Seattle’s a great city that feels smaller than it is. Mount Rainier is absolutely menacing, but beautiful – try hiking it in the morning (I’ve heard.) The ocean is at your doorstep – I’d recommend the Olympic Peninsula to see the only tropical rainforest in North America. Also the San Juans…

Definitely worth a visit, although there’s way too much to enjoy to only spend a weekend there.
