My family and I drove out there last spring when the wildflowers were at their peak. My grandson still talks about the place, asking when summer will be over so we can go again.

I stayed there for three months the summer I found out I was pregnant with my firstborn. I returned for another summer when he was 18 months old with the intent to stay forever. In the end, it wasn’t possible to get permission to work legally in Mexico and the punishments were harsh if one got caught. I adore the city. The weather is perfect, the people are friendly and loving. When I die, I have no desire to go to heaven or hell, but I want to return to Cuernavaca, sitting every afternoon in the courtyard of Las Mananitas, sipping pina coladas.
