I hitch hiked though Louisiana at a very young age. All my experience was from the high desert and I had never been in a jungle like that before. I stopped at a Piggly Wiggly to get something to drink. A very dark negro was there heating his Yoo-hoo (bottled chocolate milk) in a microwave.

This man did not, in my (in)experince, fit in the category of “black” in the sense of urban, lighter skinned, etc. He was decidedly aboriginal. He spoke Creole. He had not a drop of european blood in him. He was utterly captivating.

Loads of horse ranches with the sleakest looking colts.

At dawn, watching the sun come up out of the ocean, on Christmas Day. Temperature was perfect!

There are so many secret wonders here. My family owns a lot of land here and on that land are so many special places to visit.

And dirt cheap on the Air Force base. We played “Man Overboard” by “volunteering” one of the crew to be thrown overboard, then run over at full speed by the catamaran.

I guess we forgot about the sharks, etc., and capsized the boat once, but it was still fun.

Don’t go out barefoot in the tidal bays. I told my friend not to, and ended up having to carry him back!
