I spent a week here (Railay beach) in 2003. It was one of the most peaceful, most chilled-out places I have ever visited. The food was awesome, and these beaches with their rock formations are the most beautiful I have ever seen.

Ankor Wat was absolutely stunning. The first time you see it is the best.
I also loved just hanging around Siem Reap. Yeah, it’s touristy, but its Cambodian touristy…no McDonald’s or chain restaurants! And you can get happy pizza! :)
I recommend renting a bike to move around town, but be careful when you cross a street. There really aren’t any road rules and you are sharing the road with tuk tuks, bikes, vendors, tons of mopeds, and cars. There aren’t many traffic lights or anything..it’s just chaotic. But if you are careful, it is a lot of fun!
I second the recommendation about staying at the Red Lodge. The rooms are clean, cheap, and the staff is very helpful.
