Spenard Roadhouse

Why I want to go to this place

I’m excited to try out the Spenard Roadhouse the next time I’m visiting Anchorage. My friend Laile (Snow City Cafe owner) opened this with the folks from Sak’s, a downtown favorite of mine since high school. Should be awesome!

A review of this place

The largest bass only store in the world. Seriously.

Laperouse Bay

Worth visiting!

Untitled

A unique moonscape of lava rock leads up to and surrounds Laperouse Bay. There’s exceptional snorkeling around these parts, along the way to Laperouse via Mackena. I suggest packing a lunch and a couple chairs to sit on the lava rock … it’s refreshingly windy and gorgeous.

The last time I went to this place

The last time I went here was when Netflix delivered the Veronica Mars final season DVD to my mailbox. A wondeful, wild trip it was.

Vietnamese Cuisine

Worth visiting!

A review of this place

A really great Vietnamese restaurant in the Azeka 1 mall in Kihei. I had a wonderful lemongrass chicken bun. Some Vietnamese restaurants can simply be cheap eats – this place is far above that level with a attractive, clean atmosphere and great lowkey service. A complimentary tapioca pudding finished things nicely.

I will be back. Definitely recommended.

I don’t think this place is every going to open. It’s been over 2 years and the condo rental office is still in the space where this bar/restaurant is supposed to be.

I played a show here a while back and it was totally awesome. I love Youngstown. Anybody been there recently?

Kula Country Farms

Worth visiting!

Untitled

All fresh, local produce from Kula Country Farms. They grow it steps away from where they sell it and everything in the produce stand comes from this farm. We bought beets, carrots, tomatoes, strawberries, corn-on-the-cob and jam. $17 total.

Kula Country Farms produce stand is located at the intersection of the Kula and Haleakala Highways (Hwy 37 & 377).

Vermillion

Worth visiting!

The first time I went to this place

I was approached by Diana, the owner/operator. We talked for a quite a while about her adventures getting her new art gallery/bar/restaurant up and running. She had spotted me posting the liquor license application a while back on 43 Places.

Vermillion is going to be a nice addition to the neighborhood - and I like the fact that Diana is bootstrapping the place by opening the gallery first (her priority) and phasing in the bar/restaurant over the next couple months. The bar/restaurant is in the back thereby giving focus to the art gallery when you walk in and through the space. Great idea - go Vermillion!
