I was approached by Diana, the owner/operator. We talked for a quite a while about her adventures getting her new art gallery/bar/restaurant up and running. She had spotted me posting the liquor license application a while back on 43 Places.
Vermillion is going to be a nice addition to the neighborhood—and I like the fact that Diana is bootstrapping the place by opening the gallery first (her priority) and phasing in the bar/restaurant over the next couple months. The bar/restaurant is in the back thereby giving focus to the art gallery when you walk in and through the space. Great idea—go Vermillion!

The funny part about Pony is that it’s doomed. When the Cha Cha moved out to avoid the imminent destruction of the block for condos, Pony moved in. Pony knows it’s doomed and that’s what makes it so fun. It’s a dive with cheap drinks, an expiration date and a whole lot of free moustaches to hand out quickly.
R.I.P. in advance, Pony.
