Coit Tower

Worth visiting!

A tip I have about this place

On the 4th of July, the police will close the top of the tower so you’ll have to settle for the parking lot at the bottom. Since the parking lot has a 30-minute time limit, arrive there at 7:30pm (the fireworks start at 8). The police will block the exit until after the fireworks.

A tip I have about this place

Go paddle boating on El Estero Lake and navigate to the island in the middle of the lake!

Salt Lake City

Worth visiting!

A review of this place: Great downtown!

Free shuttle from the SLC Airport to downtown, including a small tour around the downtown. The shuttle is operated by the Temple Square folks – Very nice people, they will explain about the buildings downtown and the history of SLC without any religious pressure.

The downtown has many large buildings, some of them amazing feats of architecture (The Conference Center hosts 21,000 and is built without any pillar), is open, and feels lively, although everyone is dressed up (probably working at the numerous Mormon missions nearby).

There are many free tours. Do take the 40-minute tour of the Conference Center building, see the Auditorium, and the view from the gardens on top.

Venezia

(in Italy > Veneto)

Worth visiting!

The last time I went to this place

Venice is romantic beyond words can describe. The weather is perfect most of the year – a warm summer night inviting to a long hand-in-hand stroll along the mild ripples of the canals…

San Diego

Worth visiting!

I love San Diego!

Within the continental US, it’s the city I would most like to live in. Warm, near the ocean, lots of greenery, Balboa Park, Seaworld, away from hurricanes, large enough but not LA.

Ghent

Worth visiting!

The last time I went to this place

I’ve lived there for 6 months, but I don’t know WHERE!

This is my story but now I really need to find out at what extended-stay hotel I stayed at (I need this for immigration purposes).

All I remember is:
  • the hotel was situated outside the city center, within walking distance to church/cathedral with two big towers, and a school
  • the hotel was a monastery, converted to hotel. It has been there in 1907 or so.
  • the hotel is small, with maybe 20 (max!) rooms. The rooms were large, with inner stairs, and upstairs bedroom.
  • it was within biking distance from a canal passing through an industrial area.

Many thanks to someone who can point out what the hotel was (contact info / links / pictures). I sort of need this information ASAP!

Statue Of Liberty National Monument

Plan ahead

I’ve deleted my see the Statue of Liberty goal from 43things because I had reached my 43 things cap. Instead, I’ve moved the goal here, and would like to point to an excellent post about the preparations you should make before visiting:

Tour Eiffel

Worth visiting!

From the top, Paris looks like a cake

A white birthday cake, cut in slices by Parisian boulevards. Amazing 360-degree view.

Why I recommend this place to visitors

From the top of the Eiffel tower, Paris looks like a huge white birthday cake, cut into slices by its boulevards…

Stardust scheduled for implosion in March 2007

If anyone knows an exact date, please leave a comment at

I’ve never seen the demolition of a large structure and would very much like to do so!

UPDATES

1. http://www.jetcafe.org/npc/gambling/casino_death_watch.html

I know that most of our readers are desperate to hear a Stardust implosion date. I hope it goes without saying that we’re eager to hear something as well. So far, we’ve heard nothing that we’d consider credible. Rest assured, within 15 minutes of us hearing something solid enough to be worth reporting, we will update the Death Watch. Until then, we all have to sit tight.

Needless to say, I added the link above to my WatchThatPage.com

2. I asked the question in the 43people Las Vegas locals group and got lots of responses within minutes (thanks guys!). So far, nobody knows an exact date.
