Nevada, United States

This state will always have a special place in my heart. This is where my dad grew up and where my grandpa currently lives and vows to continue living till the day he dies. (When I was little, he told me his soul lived in the mountains, and he couldn’t go anywhere without his soul.) It’s not somewhere I’d want to settle down- I grew up in Iowa, and I couldn’t stay anywhere so dry and infertile for very long- but something about the land- the smell of sagebrush, the mountains, the endless skies- will always enchant me.

California, United States

Untitled

Been here a couple times, mainly around the Santa Barbara area, which is gorgeous. As far as insanely expensive, tourist ridden, big California cities, this one’s definitely a fine pick. You’ve got the mountains, you’ve got the ocean…beautiful. It’s funny, because my grandmother, father, mother, aunt and uncle all moved to San Francisco for various periods of time when they were young adults, and since then two of my other aunts, my cousin, my brother, a good friend, and two family friends have all moved out to Santa Barbara within the same extended period of time. So we kind of have a history of pilgrimages to California in my family, one which I will definitely have to carry on in the near future. I imagine when I do go I’ll try and do something with film or theatre- an internship, maybe. I definitely want to have a purpose- California is a good place to get things done in.
