There’s plenty to see and do in Opatija. But mainly it’s a coastal city with lots of beach activity.

It’s worth visiting. But not because it’s great.

Most everything is really run down. There are ancient Roman sites here, but it’s not well taken care of, falling down to rubble, and extremely hard to find. There’s also a 14th century castle just up the hill. Again, not very well taken care of and falling down.

There’s a wonderful church where Mary supposedly brought Jesus as a boy. There’s also plenty of shopping experiences in this city. Otherwise, it’s just a port city, pretty dumpy. Also, since it’s the biggest city in the area, it’s also the most expensive.

Beautiful sea, wonderful food, and nice people all within a small city. You can’t ask for a better vacation. There’s nearby mountains to climb and the sea is fabulous! Plenty of public and private beaches to explore. We ate so much seafood, ice cream, and pizzas; everything was really yummy. Prices are fair and not too expensive. There is a wonderful old part of the city to explore. Everything is within walking distance and we were never bored. There are larger cities close by to explore for more of the “big city” experience.
