Los Angeles

A rumor about this place

i’ve only been to the airport, but my chowhound friend brought us some great food for lunch. we basically had an indoor picnic near the ticket counter. i need to get out into the city. someday, yes.

fun

tons of good food and all different ethnicities. try the maxwell street market for their eyeball tacos. they’re much better than they sound, i promise.

Seattle

a new place

never been, and a bunch of my friends are moving there. i hear the bakeries are quite good there, too. all in the name of research, my friend, all for research.

New York City

Worth visiting!

the good life

went to college in the city for four lovely years . . . couldn’t have imagined a better time in my life to have lived there. granted, i wasn’t really living there with apartment rent, bills, etc, but i think i came close enough. the subway and bus system is great (24 hours a day, goes practically everywhere), tons of great food for ANY budget (more variety than most cities, i think), lots of museums, great late-night places (bars, restaurants, movie theaters, etc.), tons of culture. you can dress any way you like, and you probably won’t even stick out in the crowd—it’s so diverse. central park is cool . . . if you run, the new york road runners club hosts tons of races in the park and beyond . . . pretty much anything you’d ever want to do (except maybe have a backyard) is in new york. go and have fun.

Plano

Not worth visiting!

unless you have something to do there

i lived in plano for 18 years and left for college far, far away . . . i’ve only returned a handful of times for things like weddings, graduations, to see the folks, etc. sometimes i yearn for a nice backyard and space to park my car, but after a visit of only two days, i’ve already had enough (you can only eat so much of henry’s homemade ice cream and braum’s limeade). it’s kind of a blah place to grow up (there’s nothing to do but eat, shop, and watch movies), but i suppose it isn’t all that expensive, property-wise. the public schools were quite good, if you were geeky like me and wanted to do well. it’s easy to get lost in the crowd at the large plano schools.

Los Angeles

sooner or later

gotta visit—one of my oldest friends went to school and lives here. she visited my while i was in new york, but i’ve never been to LA . . . and it’s been a while since i’ve graduated. waaaah.

Boston

Worth visiting!

my current home

i’ve been here 5 years . . . and i think i can’t think of a much better place to live. it’s small enough that everywhere’s bike-able, and it’s big enough that a bunch of neat things happen here, such as great restaurants and music tours. i’m originally from texas, and the only thing that really chaps my hide is the snow in boston. it can get quite bad . . . but it’s something you learn to deal with. other than that, it’s a great place.

San Francisco

Worth visiting!

camp bread

going to SF in september for camp bread, a geeked-out learning conference on bread and the businesses of bread. pretty exciting. it’ll be my first big trip in about a year and a half.

Lockhart

barbecue

without sauce, without utensils. home of the best brisket known to man. i ate once at city market in luling, tx, but i hear lockhart’s got it beat.
