To get the full effect, you have to go twice, once during the day and once at night so you can see the lights. Avoid all the vendors trying to sell you things. I went there twice because it was like a 5 minute walk from where I stayed (campo de fiore.) Throw a coin in to ensure a return visit to Italy. Don’t throw in euros, throw one in from your country!!!

I went on one of the mornings where you go in for a blessing from the Pope.(Benedict 16) I got there really early and was right in the front!! He was so close. It took such a long time to get in because the crowd was gigantic!! There were millions of people there. The crowd was crazy. Cardinals said prayers in 8 different languages and the Pope blessed everyone in 8 different languages. I went again the next day because it was too crowded to get into St. Peters. I got to go to a mass IN ST. PETERS!!! We went down these narrow passeges and had a small mass in the Irish Chapel. We walked by like 15 of the Popes and St. Peter himself!!!!!! It was a once in a life time expierience and it was amazing, I didn’t get to see John Paul II though. I definetly recommed going there!! Just don’t buy anything from the vendors outside the walls and take a bus to get there!!
