Oceanview Breakers Apartments

Worth visiting!

A review of this place: Pricey, but a decent place to live.

I lived in this apartment complex during my Senior year of college, along with my girlfriend and another friend who I shared a room with. The place is fairly quaint and in a decent location close to a few bus routes (7/19/20), walking distance to the beach and the Boardwalk, and generally not far from campus. The staff always seemed fairly open and friendly, and they totally helped us out when we started desperately seaching for a place to live.

The rent is a bit steep ($2150 for 2BD/2BR), but if you have a small group of people who don’t mind living together it’s not too bad. There’s also a pool for the hot summers, and laundry facilities so you don’t have to drive to some all-night place when you run out of clothes. No work-out facilities, but if you go to UCSC you could always use the gym up on campus. No big deal.

Overall, I’d definitely recommend living here. It’s better than some of the other places I’ve heard about.

California

Worth visiting!

Oh, California.

I’ve lived here my entire life, and as much as I’d like to get out for a couple of years to check out what else this world has to offer, I know I’m going to wind up coming right back soon afterwards.

I love this place.

Reading

Not worth visiting!

Muh...

This is actually my mother’s hometown. Back in the 90s we’d go back every summer to visit the family living back there, and when I look back on those times, the most fun I probably had was playing the NES with my younger cousin.

Maybe it’s only because I was born in San Francisco and can’t stand small towns, but Reading just feels so ancient and stagnant to me. Just about every memory I have of the place is bad, and I really would not want to go back there anytime soon, if ever.

(Sorry, mom.)

London

Worth visiting!

The first time I went to this place

I visited London with my mother in December of 2000. We only stayed for a week, and it was raining half the time, but man was it worth visiting. If you like big cities London is definitely an amazing place to explore. It’s a great experience.

Someday I’d love to go back and spend more time there.

Taipei

(in Taiwan)
Why I want to go to this place

I’m half-Chinese, and my family on my dad’s side are from Taipei. Apparently my parents took me there when I was around two-years-old, but being that young I don’t remember a single thing about the place. I plan to go back there someday, whether with my dad or with my friends after we graduate from college.

Until then I need to work on my Mandarin so I’ll actually be able to hold a conversation with the numerous cousins I have over there still.

New York City

Why I want to go to this place

I want to go to New York because I’m interested in going to NYU for graduate school someday. Being from San Francisco, I’ve always had a great affinity for big cities, and I’ve always wanted to see NYC because it’s one of the biggest in the US. It’d be nice to go sometime in the next few years to check it out.

Hawai'i

Worth visiting!

Leaving on Monday.

I’m going to Hawaii all next week, for the first time ever. I never really expected to be going there anytime soon, but … yeah. It’ll be a nice change of pace from San Francisco for a week, and I’ll get to kick back and relax (as if I haven’t been doing so all summer) before school starts next month.

Specifically I’ll be in Honolulu and Waikiki the entire time. Everyone I know who’s gone has told me it’ll be a blast and that I’ll have an awesome time there, so I’m looking forward to it.
