The old city was fabulous, but be sure to cross the river and explore the other side.

The wine from the Vouvray region is great. Especially try the sparkling wines – the Champaign region is not the only place to get good sparling wines!

Get clothing made here. It’s cheap and the quality was great.

In the downtown you really get the feel of old Europe. There are lots of free cultural events going on during the summer, too. The cafe culture was fabulous.

I visited in the late 1970s and still remember a mirrored mosque. I’d love to revisit!

I lived here before the revolution when it was, I think, called Shahinshahr. It is a special place that I want to visit again.

I lived here for 3 years in the late 1970s, before the revolution. The Esfahani people are some of the kindest and most sophisticated people I’ve ever met. The city was the capital of the Persian Empire during the Safavad dynasty, and in the 13th and 14th centuries lots of monumental buildings and bridges were constructed, many of which are still standing. Artistry in metal, leather, carpets and painting is still very important to the culture of the city. I remember being totally fascinated by the bazaar.

One day, I will go back.

Great old city within the walls. Easy to get to by train and a good place to stop off between Madrid and Salamanca.

The Cathedral was really worth seeing if you like architecture.

I was in Beirut in the late 1970s when the war was heating up. Even so, I remember it being a beautiful city full of great people. I’d love to go back.
