Excellent Conference & Fun Trip

I learned a lot and met lots of new people at the NTC Conference. The Open Source people left a penguin outside my door. “This is not my new boyfriend,” I told all the raised eyebrows. Skipped Penguin Day to have fun with Dad.

The Conservatory in Volunteer Park is fabulous! Saw cactus in bloom. Left the disposable camera on a bench in the park (you’ll know it’s me by the purple cape) so no photos. Fremont’s public art is wonderful.

We saw “The Pillowman”. Scary and thought provoking look at how an artist reinterprets stories under the influence of a totalitarian state.

We took the Coast Starlight from Seattle to Portland. Beautiful scenery and comfortable seats!

Born and Raised in Queens

Take the water taxi for a cheap ride around Manhattan.

The half price theater tickets are an excellent deal.

Visit the Cloisters. Hard to believe you are in New York.

The Cathedral of St. John the Divine is beautiful.

Ride the subway. It’s the fastest way to get around and you’ll get to see actual New Yorkers.

Relaxing Lunch with an Excellent View

Gunderson’s Cannery Cafe is a great place to watch the ship channel and eat good food. Dad and I both enjoyed it tremendously.

We visited Fort Stevens and I (surprise) enjoyed it. “How come the barracks were so small?” pointing at these miniscule concrete pads. I must have asked 10 times. Dad’s face lit up and he told me they were the bathrooms. The rest of the barracks were on a platform. “When I was at Fort Something in Goergia, we’d go under the barracks for shade. I was there in spring and it was hot.”

I Like This Place!

So now you know I like tacky. I like cheap too.

The sand castle festival was fun. We ate in an Italian place not Norma’s. The evening stayed clear so we saw the sunset.

My Dad Lives Here

So even though I don’t enjoy it much, I go.

I love the big Powells and the used record place, is it E&M?

Check out the green roof on the building where Patagonia is. You can sit up there. Really nice small park with fountain that kids (and other young people) like is across the street.

Dad lives in Hollywood so I ride the buses and Metro. Love that. I can take the Metro back and forth from the airport.

Dad and I went to a fun fun fun festival at a Polish RC Church on the yellow line. The same weekend as Seaside Sandcastle Festival. Delicious food.

Muraltown

The murals in Coit Tower and the post office are unbelievable. Gorgeous!

More beautiful than the murals in Rockefeller Center.

Inishowen

Worth visiting!

A Peninsula Not an Island

Grianan Aileach guards the entrance to Inishowen. The nearest town is Burt. This pre-Celtic fort was mentioned by Ptolomeny. You can see Logh Swilly and Logh Foyle.

Stunningly gorgeous.

Mamore Gap had two roadside shrines and what looked like a Mass Rock.

The restrooms at the Guns of Dunree were wonderful. The guy at the entrance didn’t charge us. He mentioned it was odd to see two women coming to the fort.

The ruin of the enormous Northburg Castle in Greencastle was a bit spooky in the dusk.

Hiked a short way up to the Glenevin Waterfall.
