Teatro Anatomico

Why I want to go to this place

As referenced in “Editor’s Perspective” in the April 2008 (Vol 31, No 4) issue of Surgical Rounds:

My, how times have changed! If you need prof of that statement, I recommend that you visit the Teatro Anatomico, an anatomy lecture/demonstration hall in the Palazzo dell’Archiginnasio in Bologna, Italy. This lecture hall exists as a testament to the study of anatomy, a subject that has seen its importance in medical school education progressively fade as first-year teaching time is reallocated to glitzier, more touchy-feely subjects.

Powell Gardens

Not worth visiting!

The first time I went to this place

Visited on 25 May 2008, the Sunday before Memorial Day. Not many people there, so it was a pleasant stroll with my SO and our camera; still there wasn’t nearly the variety and quantity of plant life I’ve come to expect from such a place. The heart of the US is a beautiful place in and of itself; you likely won’t find much advantage to visiting Powell Gardens. If you desire to, however, it may be more pleasant to visit in the late summer than the late spring.
