Ford-Wyoming Drive-In

Worth visiting!

The first time I went to this place

They say the Ford-Wyoming is the biggest drive-in in the world. It was really fun, actually, to watch the movie from our car. The price was comparable to a theater ticket, and so were the concession prices. Overall, a really fun experience. I’m anxious to try other drive-ins.

Vinology

Not worth visiting!

First visit

I wasn’t impressed by the food, which was pricey and not very tasty. A lovely wine list, of course, and the decor is quite fancy. I’d rather have better food in a diner than not-great food on a nice plate, though.

Dinner and a Movie

We went to Saddle Ranch Chop House for dinner. Even though it was 8:30, we waited half an hour for a table. The bartender handed over our Diet Cokes without accepting payment, and we watched mechanical bull riders until our pager went off. The portions at this place are HUGE. A meal is certainly enough for two, maybe three people. We ordered an appetizer which we barely touched, we couldn’t finish our meals by a long shot, and despite the desserts looking absolutely wonderful, we just didn’t have room for them. The service was outstanding, and a roving guitar duo stopped by the table and took requests. The food was just okay. I wouldn’t come back here unless I was looking for a night spot; the prices at the bar were good (comparatively) and there was a large and crowded dance floor.

After dinner we wandered and shopped – the shops are open late and there’s plenty of variety.

We capped off the evening with a movie at the theater here. Buying tickets gets you $5 off the parking cost of $10. The theater surprised me – it was very modern and lovely, but dirty and not at all well-maintained. Our theater still had trash in it from previous showings, and the bathrooms were dirty and out of toilet paper, paper towels, and soap. I’d choose a different theater next time.

Final Judgment: The Citywalk experience can’t be beat at night. The neon lights and signs are exciting; many on display are from the collection of an association dedicated to saving “antique” neon signs. The shopping and atmosphere are worth travelling to CityWalk for, and you can certainly find a dinner spot there. Skip the movies.

The Magic Castle

Worth visiting!

A review of this place: Wonderful!

I’d never seen such exciting shows. The best parts by far were the close-up show (during which I never caught the magician, even though I was less than fifteen feet away) and just happening upon someone doing a show or practicing tricks at a table in a hallway or pub downstairs. You’d sit at the same table with the magician, and he’d perform sleight of hand right in front of you. I watched three performers this way, and it was the highlight of the whole vacation. Definitely recommended!

We saw “Kiss Me Kate” in Deutsch at the Staatsoper. It was great!

I travelled here with members of my high school class when we were seniors. It was a delightful week of sightseeing, but I’d love to see the city with adult eyes.

Sugarbush Bed And Breakfast

Nice, but I wouldn't return

My boyfriend and I stayed here on our visit to Guelph last fall. The proprietors were very nice, but a bit awkward. Breakfast was average. The best thing about the B&B was the hot tub outside – don’t forget a bathing suit!

Revolving Dining Room

The food was very good. A bit pricey, but the view is great, and how often do you get to slowly revolve in the sky during dinner?

I’m just visiting Toronto for the first time, and I’m overwhelmed! What a great place. Terrific public transportation, beautiful art and sculpture everywhere in the city, and lots of little districts with tons of quirky personality. Cheers!

Rogers Centre

Worth visiting!

The first time I went to this place

I’m actually posting from the Renaissance Hotel located in Rogers Centre. We bought the rooms through Hotwire.com, and ended up with a full suite for an absolutely terrific price. We went to the Tigers/Jays game tonight, and I’d highly recommend the hotel to anyone going to a game. I loved the stadium, too. I’d never been in a domed baseball stadium before, and it was much better than freezing in the Detroit April weather. I’ve love to come back!
