The Lenin Statue, Fremont

Untitled

NOTE: The Lenin photo was part of an in-office “Challenge” and I located it first this time for once. Our task is to locate and name a photo stripped of its identity of person and place. Our challenges are always tied to history and usually we learn something fascinating (or at least great trivia) from searching and finding. I’m learning to research more efficiently in fact! In the past few months, we’ve virtually traveled to a Russian memorial to firefighters at Chernobyl (break-your-heart staggeringly beautiful), a Plains Indian memorial to the Indians at Little Big Horn (inspired, I want to go there!!!), and Benedict Arnold’s unmarked “Boot Monument.” So Lenin with his neon star adds one more interesting place and photo to the list. Fun that I found it here on 43 Places!!!

The Lenin Statue, Fremont

Untitled

And there he is, without his Starbucks grande cinnamon latte laced with Russian vodka.

Gotta be Russian poetry in this juxtaposition of power and history and infamy parked next to a gelato stand and festooned with a red neon star overhead during the “holiday” season…only in America…I like it. The artwork is great, the statue formidable no matter who it depicts, and we need to remember that revolutions ;usually start in tiny little places with ordinary people, with souls on fire.

It’s worth seeing in situ.
