Was in 1990 when I studied abroad in Leningrad. What a magical, surreal place. Still is. Went back in ’94 and 2001.

I was last here in September 2006, to Zurich, Geneva, and Basel. All are great in their own unique ways. Lovely countryside and the trains are fantastic. I have relatives there too so that helps. They live all around St. Gallen and Zurich.

Oh yes!

I was there for a few days during the 5 months I worked in Tajikistan in 1996. Surely lots have changed. Only hit Samarkand and Tashkent in a matter of 3-4 days. Samarkand was AMAZING, the Registan as were those other mosque type places. The market in S was great too, as they are everywhere in Central Asia. Would love to return and visit Khiva and Bukhara.
