I am embarrassed to say that last week was the first time I had been to the new building. I went with my son’s sophmore history class to see the Louvre exhibit.

At first the spaces weren’t as pointy as I wanted them to be. Once we got to the modern art galleries on the third floor though all that changed. The exhibition spaces were every bit as sharp as I had hoped they would be.

My personal favorites: The azure steel piece with the great acoustics and the hanging glass drops in the modern art gallery.

We bought a wine paired dinner party and an overnight stay here at a charity auction. I, like many others, have seen this house from the Interstate a million times but have never been in it. The house was amazing, the views to die for and the dinner perfect. The evening and the house exceeded our expectations in every way!

I want to ake my husband here for his 50h birthday – it is the only continent he has never been on.

Went about 3 weeks ago, it’s so beautiful up here! The elk herds hang out up here in the summer, so there’s lots of wildlife. Bring your camera!

Oh my. So we go to the corn festival, yes? Who can not love an event that features both all the free roasted sweet corn you can eat and a butter hut to grease it up in? Add in a couple of potato twists and the odd funnel cake, toss in a free Leann Rimes concert and I’m in.

But no one told me about the corn eating contest. No indeed. It started innocently enough. “Can I have 10 contestants for the corn eating contest up on stage, and remember, bring an assistant.” If the mayor is calling out the contest, really, how bad can it be? Bad, it can be bad. I am certain that what those people were doing with those cobs violates obscenity laws. The gnawing and the slurping and popping in and out of the mouth. Things were flying. Things were STICKING.

And then there was Tiny. A vast hulking, laughing corn-fed mountain of a human being. Tiny always wins. Tiny does things with his mouth and corn that were never meant to be. And the crowd sighs and groans and can’t look away.

I have been scarred. I will need therapy. I will be back next year to enter the women’s contest. Oh yes.

The building and grounds were lovely. They had their own “village”. Read that they had their own peasants. I wanna have peasants. And a winery. And a private deer park. Oh, oh and air conditioning, oh wait, I have that and they don’t….

Tips: go on a cool day, wear good shoes, do the behind the scenes tour and don’t, repeat don’t, force teenagers to go.

My 10 year old daughter and I rented a car in Denver last year and drove across the country ending in South Carolina. We both fell in love with this place from the very first day. This year we took the guys back with us and loved it again.
