I’ve been living in Floripa for ~7 months now, and it’s been very nice. It’s an absolutely beautiful place, with views of rolling hills, a glassy lagoon and some fairly majestic coastline. The weather is awesome, rarely too hot in the summer and (so far) never too cold in the winter. There are indeed dozens of beaches and plenty of beautiful people, plus sporty stuff like kitesurfing, paragliding, kayaking, etc.

On the (potentially) minus side, Florianopolis is not exactly a major metropolis, and there’s not always a lot going on in terms of events, shopping or accidental culture. But it’s safe and pleasant and a great place to hang out and do your own thing.
