so I’m a bit of a booster, but also have a fairly balanced view of the faults and advantages of the atl. glad to be out of the city for now, though, to be perfectly honest. not sure yet if I’ll end up living here permanently or not. Portland calling…

Great museums, public transportation (metro and METROCABLE), people, and entertainment. Lots of poverty but that’s reality and the informal settlements are fascinating (viewed from Metrocable – too dangerous to visit unless with an ong or other official group, and even then…)

Watching the sun rise over Machu Picchu is a life-changing experience. Climbing the peak in front of it was a life-threatening one, but I’m so glad I did it.

Lived here for a summer…I actually cried on the flight back to Atlanta, I loved it so much there. One caveat: in general one of the more racist cities in Latin America. But there are wonderful people in Quito despite this overall tendency. GO TO SESERIBO (salsa club).

The botanical gardens here are amazing – I just went yesterday, and although I tend to exaggerate, it’s now one of my favorite places in the world. You should go.
