Worth visiting!
50 Km crystal-clear ultra-blue freshwater lake
I first visited lake bacalar while exploring the Yucatan in my van in 2004. The lake is about 30 miles offshore of the Carribean, and just an hour north of the Belize border.
I’d never seen such beautiful, clear, blue water in my life. The bottom of the lake is limestone, so it’s white and free of grasses and creepy things.
I bought a little plot of land on the border of the lake. Contact me if you’d like to camp out there. There’s a palapa where you can hang your hammock.
