Monowi is a village located in Boyd County, Nebraska. During the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 2; only one married couple, Rudy and Elsie Eiler, lived there. Mr. Eiler died in 2001, leaving his wife, Elsie Eiler as the only remaining resident. According to the United States Census Bureau, only 4 places in the United States had a population of one person in 2000: Ervings, New Hampshire, New Amsterdam, Indiana, Hibberts, Maine, and Lost Springs, Wyoming.

Monowi’s peak years were in the 1930s, when it had a population of 130. Due to growing cities that offered more lucrative jobs, Monowi, like many other small towns in the Great Plains, lost its younger residents to the big cities.

Although nearly abandoned, the town does have the 5000-volume Rudy’s Library, founded in memory of Mr. Eiler and maintained by Mrs. Eiler. In addition, Mrs. Eiler runs a tavern in Monowi and draws regular customers from as far away as 80 miles.

Hell yes this is worth visiting!!! It is Stone henge. made with cars. The guy went to Scotland and studied Stonehenge, inherited some land, came back and instead of farming built Stonehenge. Did I mention out of cars?

One of my favorite liquor stores in Madison. Some of the friendliest employees around.

This is the place to go if you like seeing politicians and political “celebrities.” Tammy Baldwin, Mayor Dave, and John Nichols are only a handful of the faces you’ll see hanging out here. You can tell a lot by what a person drinks.

Also, if you are looking for a coffee job and don’t mind constant traffic, this is the best place for tips.

Best dive bar in Madison. Great fried cheese curds.

Cathy is one of the best venue owners in the country. Treats fans and bands right. Not too mention a great Happy Hour.

Great atmosphere and good people.

I was very surprised by my first visit to Milwaukee. Been back many times and find new interesting things every time.
