The picture of Maradi someone uploaded under this nation made me laugh, because I’ve been there. Any picture of any city posted anywhere, I could of said, I’d been there. There are few cities in Niger. And even fewer buildings. Therefore the ones you do see, you remember. I spend most of my time where the people are. In the villages. In the dessert. In the sun. It was a hard country. A country of death, starvation, and religious bondage, but would I go back? In a heartbeat. The people of Niger are forever imprinted in the memory of my mind. Their love, their hunger, their cry. It was a beautiful country. Void of anything farmiliar to this american raised girl. Yet there is beauty in nothing. It’s a strange beauty. It’s a haunting beauty. It’s one I’m going to embrace again, very very soon.
