This is a great place to live, with good schools, a great library, good development strategy. But there’s really nothing here to do if you’re visiting except… Twins Days! Its the first full weekend in August each year, and yes, there are a lot of twins. Check it out at http://www.twinsdays.org/

This museum is run by Jaars in Waxhaw, NC. Its so good the Smithsonian tried to buy it. It covers both the history of written language as well as the difference kinds written languages. Its not a huge museum, but it can take about two hours to see everything. If you go on a Jaars day (first Saturday of each month) you can go get an airplane ride afterword!

I volunteered for a summer at Jaars (www.jaars.org) which is a bit south of Waxhaw. First Saturday of every month is Jaars day, and you can tour the Museum of the Alphabet (which the Smithsonian tried to purchase) and the Mexico Museum. As well as the museums you can get a ride in a plane or helicopter.

Downtown Waxhaw is pretty cool. Lots of people hanging out, and some rather nifty stores. Unfortunatly the urban sprawl of Charlotte is starting to eat into the small town atmosphere. If you go, don’t miss standing on the footbridge as a train goes by underneath. And there’s a nice park that’s kinda hidden on the west end of the downtown area if you get tired of walking about or just want to sit down and eat an ice cream.
