Camp Valea Budului, Bacău County

I want to go back here!

I volunteered here last summer as an English teacher. Camp Budului is up in the hills in Romania, and behind it there’s a delightful shortcut to the village below. There’s a lovely steep path crisscrossed with thick twisted tree roots running down through woodland, emerging into some sunny meadows covered in wildflowers (at least when I was there!). From there you can see the village in the valley. I was just enchanted when I came across this place, it was magical!

Dartmoor

I grew up on Dartmoor (in Devonshire), and I still think it’s one of the wildest and most fascinating places in Britain. Of course, I was a child so possibly my recollection has changed facts a bit, but I remember it as wide rolling slopes with typical sheep-cut short grass, standing stones (including the ’Hen’s Tooth’), quite deep snow in the winter, and the ‘Forest’ where loads of pine trees grew close together in neat lines making a deep gloom. The floor inside the forest was all bouncy and crunchy with browned dry pineneeedles. Sigh! I would like to go back there and live one day.

Has anyone else on here been there? I lived in Princetown.
