Minneapolis

I'm a fan of John Sndford...

John Sandford’s Prey series has made me want to visit Minneapolis (indeed, the Twin Cities) for many years now, since I read the first book in the series, The Rules of Prey.

I just looked at his website and the series is now up to 20 books, and I definitely haven’t read them all, but I think probably more than half. He’s a good writer, and Lucas Davenport is a good character, so if you’ve read these books you can probably understand why I’d like to visit.

New Jersey

Worth visiting!

back in 2000...

I visited New Jersey in 2000 when I went to stay with a friend as I trekked around The States. They lived in one of the ‘burbs not too far from the bridge across the river into Philadelphia, which proved to be a big highlight for me (visiting Philly).

Also, I was there for 4th July, and myself and her family drove down to Atlantic City to watch the fireworks on the beach, as well as have a swim in the afternoon beforehand. Also got to visit Caesar’s Palace and a couple of other big casinos, which, for an Aussie who’d never seen a “Casino strip”, was something special.

New Jersey has lots of houses, as everyone tells you, but I think it is well-and-truly worth visiting, especially for everything that is around it (I also visited NYC while I was there).

Kakadu National Park

Went there earlier this year and it was wonderful! Especially the Aboriginal rock art, but the wildlife and the people were great too!

Mongolia

(in Asia)
Why I want to go to this place

I’ve recently been watching the TV series made by Ewan McGregor and Charlie Boorman called “Long Way Round” about their motorcycle trip around the world. They fell in love with Mongolia, in spite of all of the hardships they had to endure trying to ride through it, and I must admit that from everything I saw in the shows I soooo want to go there now. Really really badly!
Please, if anybody wants to help me get there, I’m not too proud to accept charity based on pity…

Philadelphia Museum of Art

Worth visiting!

hahaha

I realised this was in my places I wish I could go to list, and I’ve already been there!

Unless I meant when I put it in that I wanted to go back, because I do, but I just loved it sooooo much…what a wonderful place!

Saskatoon

Worth visiting!

Saskatoon 1996

Spent a few weeks in saskatoon before Christmas in the snowy winter of 1996, visiting friends that I hadn’t seen for a few years, and am so glad I went!
My first experience of the friendliness of canadian people, and I had some wonderful exciting times exploring the town and the university and the river.
I’d go back there again if I had the chance.

Landsberg am Lech

(in Germany > Bayern)

Worth visiting!

beautiful memories

Landsberg is a town in the southwest of Bavaria, Germany, about 50 kilometers west of Munich and 35 kilometers south of Augsburg. It is located on the river Lech not far from the reservoir that feeds it.
The town is noted for its prison where Adolf Hitler was incarcerated in 1924. I’m told it was also one of the largest Displaced Person camps for Jewish refugees after World War II.
I visited it in 1996 for the first time with a beautiful German girl named Tini, and it was a very cold and snowy January. We hiked up to the reservoir through the trees and it really was beautiful.
I went back on two other occasions while I was there, both times alone, but had wonderful times there both times. There is a beautiful cathedral there which I spent over an hour in, and also walked around the old wall of the original medieval township of Landsberg.
My memories of this place are grand, and I would love to get back there one day…

Alaska

mmm...Alaska.

I think I’d love to visit Alaska, but not just to visit it, but to really live it. I mean, I’d like to do everything I can there, not just the cruise on a nice boat, but I’d like to drive the roads, visit the cities, and actually live and camp there a while (all the time watching out for bears – yikes). It just seems to me to be a magical wilderness, and I’d like to get there sometime and do the whole place as much as I can.

Broome

Wonderful Broome...

I’m still yet to get there, and I’ve wanted to go for a long long time. The ting that sort of surprises me but also sort of doesn’t is that all of the people who have Broome on their lists, bar one (kx from Singapore), are from Australia. Is this cool location a big secret from the rest of the world, or what?

Stonehenge

Worth visiting!

great day...

I spent a day travelling by bus from another part of England where I was staying, back in 2000. It was a slight anti-climax because it really is out there all on its lonesome, but the mysticality of the place can still be felt. Good luck on getting there…well worth it!
