Piroshky-Piroshky

Worth visiting!

Yummy piroshky!

Went here for lunch today for the first time. Beef & cheese piroshky and a sausage roll. Delightful! I’ll definitely be back…

The Blarney Stone

Worth visiting!

Macy's employees watering hole

I work as a graphic designer and print production specialist for Macy’s Northwest’s advertising department here in downtown Seattle. The Blarney Stone is kitty-corner from work; the perfect spot to relax with co-workers over a couple of pints after a hard day’s work! And the two pool tables are actually quite decent, as well.

Lower Pool Table

Worth visiting!

A tip I have about this place

One of the crappiest pool tables on Earth, but I love playing on it for some reason. Maybe because I’ve gotten acquainted with its eccentricities over these past 12 years. The price per game just went up from 50 cents to a buck last week, though. Oh well… more incentive to win!

Seattle Police Department East Precinct

Worth visiting!

Visited Seattle's Finest a few years ago...

Some friends and I were out gallavanting on Capitol Hill and came across a dozen or so unspent .38 caliber shells lying on the sidewalk. Wouldn’t want those to fall into the wrong hands, now would we? So we took them to the East Precinct where they accepted them and thanked us for our civic diligence.

I like cops!

Hot Mama's Pizza

Worth visiting!

A review of this place: Best pizza on Capitol Hill

I don’t know what it is, exactly, but I LOVE this pizza! There’s something so inviting about this place as I walk by on a cold evening and see the windows all steamy from the delicious pies being served up. And you can grab a slice in just a few seconds (compare with waiting 20 minutes to do the same at Piecora’s).

And they nail the New York Style crust perfectly almost every time. It should crack slightly when you fold the slice lengthwise. Not split in half, you understand, just a nice “crack” that you can hear.

Good stuff!

Piecora's

Worth visiting!

OK, this is a little embarassing...

but I actually ordered a pizza for delivery from here the other night. Embarassing, you ask? Why so? Well, if I walk to the end of the parking lot next to my house, I can SEE it! But I had a couple of friends over for a moving-in party, and was a bit tired. And lazy. And drunk. So there.

Good pizza all in all, but their crust is a bit soft for a “New York Style” pizza, and they are a bit spendy ($19.48 for a half pepperoni pie and caesar salad). As far as pizza on Capitol Hill goes, Hot Mama’s gets my vote.

Bauhaus Books & Coffee

Worth visiting!

A regular haunt again...

After a 5-year stint in Columbia City, and another 2 years in Squire Park, I’m back on Capitol Hill with Bauhaus conveniently located midpoint along my walk to work downtown. I truly love this place! The Online Coffee Company is much closer to my house, and I like that place well enough, but it just doesn’t have the same cozy atmosphere and people watching potential as does Bauhaus. Plus, in the week or so that I’ve been back on the Hill, I’ve run into quite a few people at Bauhaus that I haven’t seen in years. I’ll be spending quite a bit of time here, I know…

Crocodile Cafe

Worth visiting!

Great venue...

After the Showbox, the Croc is my next favorite live music venue. Best of all, whenever Mike Watt is in town he plays here. One of the best shows of my life was seeing Watt and the Black Gang Crew a few years back with Joe Baiza (Saccharine Trust, Universal Congress Of) on guitar. The sheer joy on that man’s face when he plays is truly inspiring!

Unfortunately, I can’t really recommend the Reuben sandwich served here. Last one I tried to eat tasted a little fishy…

The Showbox

Worth visiting!

Best music venue in town!

Of course, I haven’t been to all of them, but the Showbox is my favorite so far… not too big, not too small, and the acoustics are fantastic! A highlight was seeing Fântomas with Melt-Banana as the opener a couple of years ago. And the hot dog stand outside simply rocks!

Tacos El Asadero

Worth visiting!

Taco trucks are one thing...

But this is a taco BUS! What could be better than a bus full of delicious Mexican food?
