I snuck across the border into Burma on a dare. Yeah, what’re you gonna do about it?

A plethora of peoples, staring at me. Lots of signs I couldn’t make heads or tails of, in Burmese. Wonderful Buddhist temples and young monks doing work. The woven straw huts and jungle foliage.

If only I had more than one day!

Heng Shan is a town in Hunan province, southwest of Changsha, named after the mountain it is near. Heng Shan (the mountain) is one of five sacred Daoist mountains in China, and the farthest one south. The mountain itself has temples all up and down it—Confucian, Daoist, Buddhist. The highest peak, ZhuRong, is quite a sight. Looking down into mist-covered valleys, like bowls of steaming rice milk…

The base of the mountain has an old famous temple (or series of temples, actually) in the NanYue section of town. It is called NanYue Da Miao—Nan Yue Big Temple. The temples were quite a sight. Other than that, Heng Shan is a small town in a rural area. And I don’t think they see many foreigners (one child who saw me jumped and ran and hid behind the door to her apartment, carefully peering out at the strange big-eyed, big-nosed giant creature before her).

First time I went to this place….was RIGHT NOW. OMG I AM SITTING IN STARBUCKS DRINKING COFFEE RIGHT NOW!!!! AAAHHHHHH!!!!

Denver is nice and clean, interesting, easily navigatable downtown.

What’s better than getting off a plane and looking for someone you’ve never met before, and they are holding up a sign that says “ENEMAFACE” on it? I guess it gets better when they give you a box full of bounce dryer sheets. It keeps all my memories fresh.

Got arrested here while visiting a friend at bible school. Do you have a better story?

I grew up here, for about 6 years. A lot of the area was architecturally designed by my great grandfather of the Davis family, which he modeled after stays in places like Capri. This place reminds me of childhood—it’s got great outdoors and fun trails for kids to explore, and the beach is right down the hill. Quite a fun place to spend one’s childhood.

Fell in love with a girl here. That’s always a pretty awesome experience.

Sweet venue in a sleazy alley. Saw some great shows here—Interpol, Built to Spill, Mogwai, Godspeed You Black Emperor, The Dillinger Escape Plan…. damn, I saw a lot of good shows here. This place has pretty awesome sound, too. Definitely a venue worth remembering.

Wonderful place, and I got to see it on a beautiful sunny day! Lush green fields, colorful flowers, and a blue sky really brought out the ancient grandeur of this Roman city. Even though this was considered just a minor outpost in the entire Roman Empire, I was quite impressed with its splendor. In tact tile mosaics, the arc de triomphe, roman arches. It was wonderful.
