Carowinds Water And Theme Park, Charlotte

Not so much a story as a vignette...

I went here very often as a child (Mom and I had a season pass) and I worked there from age 16-18. There are many happy memories of this place for me. My favourite ride was the Goldrusher. I saw some good shows here as well, including Midnight Oil with Ziggy Marley & the Melody Makers and Hothouse Flowers.

Charlotte, North Carolina

Untitled

I was born here and lived here until I was 28, so… this place was my life for the longest time.

If you want to find the cool places in Charlotte, you do have to look. It also depends on what you like to do. It’s probably changed a whole lot in the five years since I moved away, so I can’t help you there. If Lupie’s is still open, I highly recommend eating there. Check out Creative Loafing for stuff to do. But don’t just assume that, because it’s a financial centre and is in the south, that there’s nothing to do or that it’s some kind of redneck place. You just have to keep an open mind and do some digging.

District of Columbia, United States

Untitled

I felt as if I was at home the first time I visited DC, and I’ve felt that way every time. Although I’ve never managed to live there, I want to go there every chance I get, and it’s always a wonderful feeling. Some part of me feels that maybe I’m meant to be a visitor, not a resident. My bank account definitely feels that way…

My most recent visit to DC was during a turbulent phase in my life. I’d been making a lot of changes; I’ll just leave it at that. During one day spent alone in the city, I had what I can only describe as a Moment, or rather, a series of Moments. You know Moments – you never forget them, and they’re special for reasons that you may not even be able to put into words. For that reason and many others, DC is always going to be special to me.

No one I know seems to understand my longtime obsession with this city. They look at it and see horrible traffic, government corruption, crime, and crazy street design. I look at it and see my spiritual home.
