The Friendly Toast

Worth visiting!

A review of this place

The Friendly Toast is a stop I must make every time I’m in Portsmouth or driving through the area. The eclectic decor and unique range of sandwiches and other food make it a great place to eat each time! My favorite sandwich is called the French Melt, I think – ham, two kinds of cheese, and asparagus on delicious toasty bread.

New River

We stop at the Gorge Bridge each time we drive back from NC on Rt. 19. It’s quite impressive: the view from the bridge, and the view of the bridge from below. Beautiful!

Waterbury

Worth visiting!

Why I recommend this place to visitors

I’ve been to Waterbury many times. The first trip was to visit Ben & Jerry’s, but we learned about several other places in town that are equally worth visiting. Now when we go, we stop at B&J’s, but we also go to Green Mtn. Coffee, Grandview Winery, Cold Hollow Cider Mill, and the Cabot Annex, where you can sample tons of their cheeses! The Cabot Annex shares its building with Lake Champlain Chocolates, which is right through the open doorway. Fun day trip!

Washington, D.C.

Worth visiting!

The first time I went to this place

Last weekend was my first visit to D.C. – and I’m 28! We didn’t have much time to see everything, but we visited the Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, White House, Vietnam Memorial, Arlington Cemetery, and the Iwo Jima USMC War Memorial. If we’d had time, we would have liked to visit the Smithsonian. We had dinner one evening in the Washington Hotel, which offers a great view of the Treasury Department building and the White House. My first trip to this city was awe-inspiring, to say the least!

Lots of fun! Visit Goldenrod Kisses where you can watch them make yummy saltwater taffy! Drive up to Nubble Light, the lighthouse at Cape Neddick between Long Sands & Short Sands beaches.

North End

Cute area of Boston and fantastic Italian food!

New Orleans

Worth visiting!

Lafitte's

If you visit NOLA, stop at Lafitte’s Blacksmith Shop Bar on Bourbon Street. It’s a cozy little place with a piano and I’ve heard it’s the oldest building that currently operates as a bar in the U.S. It’s supposed to have been famous pirate Jean Lafitte’s (one of my ancestors) blacksmith shop back in the day.

Penn State

Worth visiting!

A Penn Stater for many years, a small part of my heart will always be in Happy Valley. Great fun to visit, especially on football weekends! Be sure to have an ice cream cone at the Creamery while you’re there.

Portsmouth

Worth visiting!

Cute waterfront town

Portsmouth is a nice little town to visit. Very picturesque during any season! I highly recommend the Portsmouth Brewery or The Friendly Toast, an excellent little restaurant with unusual decor and even more unusual (and tasty!) food.

Lake Sunapee

Worth visiting!

Beautiful, quiet, clean lake in western New Hampshire. My grandparents have a house there and I’ve visited at least once a year since I was born. Nearby Mt. Sunapee offers skiing in the winter, too. Word has it, Steven Tyler and Joe Perry of Aerosmith met at a restaurant at Sunapee Harbor.
