Weaverville, Trinity County
Oh Trinity!
I have been there because I used to live “up thar” in those mountains, graduated from high school there, still have people there. It is a good place, a gem. People are friendly. To date it still has the distinction of being “the only town in the nation with no traffic lights” [so sayeth the proclaimers at good ol’ CNN] and, truly, people will mobilize and get all up in arms when CalTrans starts talking about straightening Hwy. 299W over Buckhorn Mountain. The “town fathers” just allowed in a chain coffe place and a chain burger place, like in the last couple years. Lots of gold rush history in the area… and the historic Joss House is the oldest Taoist temple still in use in America. If you like to fish, hike, camp, rest on your way to the big trees in Humboldt… pull over and enjoy Weaverville. Years ago, the respected author, Mr. James Hilton, called in Shangri-La… who knows? You might, too. Stop into the New York Saloon and say hello to Dee for me.
