Weinberg is a steep hillside above the Orangerie in Kassel. The remains of beautiful ugly old buildings compete with woodlands for dominance of this otherwise undeveloped parcel. There are public galleries at the crown, which afford a great view of the river valley below.
Nighttime is especially interesting…
over 5 years agoSwitzerland has a bad rap. When I hear about green pastures and uptight people, it just doesn’t match my experiences, which (from Zurich to Geneva) have been of a place modern, exciting, cultured, maybe a little stuffy, but also deliciously insane.
A great place to walk, you need boots for walking here!

The trains do NOT run on time, ever! People drive too slow for anyone familiar with German Autobahnen. Even the planes are slow; yes the idea of flying within Svizzera is odd, but it is done and is surprsingly slow, and yes, all up and down.
over 5 years agoTo speak the word “Belgium” is a gratuitous exercise is calling on a concept so dismal, so inhuman…
The country is grey, the people speak some unintelligibe jibber that is neither French, nor Flemish. Understanding them is worse that feeling that one is missing something—at least feeling that one is missing something allows the imagination to presume it worth knowing.
The architecture of the Brutalist movement would be a welcome relief from the mix of cheescake and Stalin that pervades the land. Mind you, there are the coastal towns…yes, they are near the water, but that is about it—think Oostende.
As for food, the chocolate is seriously overrated, the confits are a sorry parallel of Paris, and the basics are flavourless cram.
