The food, the culture, the religions, all of it is a little different, and very passionate.
Obeah is a strange, strange thing.
It’s a very small island, making the diversity seem intense.

My party and I went to the airport to ask for recommendations/directions on places to stay.
She got on the phone, then got off the phone, then said to us:
“Drive up this road, here and make a left. You’ll see a green bar. Go in and ask for Pumpy. He’ll direct you.”
It was, by far, the best directions I’ve ever gotten from a booking agent.
We eventually made it to the home of this woman who rents out the bottom half of her house for US$20 per person per night. It came with a full huge kitchen, furnished livingroom with cable, and large comfy beds. Oh, and a shower with hot water. Can you believe that?? Twenty bucks!
Also, we made some nice Rastafarian friends on our stay, who were more than hospitable. Ask for Captain Christopher if you go on the glassbottom boat snorkeling tour.

I was very small. I got lost one evening.
A man blowing glass made me a cat.

It’s funny to see McDonald’s disguised as a little village shop off of some cobblestone road near a castle.

I was fifteen, and I went with my friend to visit her dad, who was thirty-five. He was really young and hip, for a dad, so it was cool to have him as our guardian/whatever.
She got really angry at us when we talked a lot, though.
We all went to Bumbershoot, where I saw Pavement perform. We were close to the stage. It was so grand.

My boyfriend broke up with me. I still love him.
The city is wonderful, but for the first time I felt very disconnected from all the strangers there.

Walking down the sidewalk, my friend and I pulled out a map of the town, which was given to us by our hostel owner. Before we could even unfold it fully, the first person walking in our direction stopped and asked us if she could help us find something.
Later that afternoon, we stopped into a natural/health food store. I bought crystallized ginger and ginger brew. That night, We saw the clerk who checked out my gingery goods in a cafe and said hey. He invited us to his house and we drank wine and ate bread. He offered us floor space.
Everyone there is so helpful. It made us feel so nice. Nothing like that would ever happen in New Jersey.
