Binh Le, Tulsa

Untitled

Whenever I get a cold (which is about once every winter), the thing I crave like nothing else is Binh Le’s special chicken soup and imperial rolls with peanut sauce. Yummy!

Tulsa, Oklahoma

If you have to come to Oklahoma....

I admit, there are many, many times that I am embarassed to be from Oklahoma. Also, my husband and I are planning to move east as soon as we finish our Bachelor’s degrees. As I have said many times, Tulsa would be a wonderful city, if it wasn’t in Oklahoma. Tulsa as a whole can be very backward, conservative, old-fashioned, and even opressive. However, there are hidden gems to be discovered all over the city and some not so hidden as well. Downtown has stunning architecture and it would be easy to spend hours walking around down there looking at the intricate and unique buildings. The Tulsa Ballet is wonderful, the zoo is awesome, and Cherry St. and Brookside can almost make you feel like you live in a normal city. The Cherry St. farmer’s market is amazing! And I have to say when I do leave, I will sorely miss the lovely little coffee shops, Saffron, Gypsy and Shades of Brown.

Gardner's Used Books & Comics, Tulsa

Untitled

This is one of my favourite places. I never read books, I devour them and at an alarming rate. It can become a rather pricey habit and Gardener’s is like a holy place to me. It even smells like old books when you walk in the door. It’s quiet and very easy to lose yourself in. Now with the addition of the mexican resaurant and the coffee shop it’s even better than when I first started going there over 10 years ago. In high school I even got the opportunity to meet one of my favourite authors, Mercedes Lackey. She signed my copy of Jinx High and laughed when I told her I attended Union. (Jinx High is actually a play on Jenks High and is set in the Jenks/Tulsa area). Several years ago I even lucked into a long out of print book that I had been longing, I got it for about $3 and even though it was finally reprinted a couple of years ago it is a treasured posession of mine.
