Calabogie, Ontario

Great lake, close to Ottawa

Owned a cottage on the lake for over 40 years. Not a lot of change, relatively speaking over the years. A few more cottages, although the new ones are more like 4 season homes. The south side is considerably less developed than the north side where the town of Calabogie sits. The lake is beautiful.

Lausanne, Vaud

Very civilized

Really enjoyed living here for two years. Very clean, organized, safe. Well serviced by trains and the local light rail system (metro). Great place to ride your bicycle with nice smooth roads, well marked bicycle routes, and clean water at public fountains. Lausanne, is essentially built on a hillside and there are a few steep grades. Around the lake is nice and flat and the ride out to Montreux was a favourite (as well was a hill climb up to the peak of the Jura mountains called Mt. Tendre at 1600m). From the local harbour, you can also catch a ferry to Evian (FR) across the lake. Bring lots of money (Swiss Francs). Everything, other than bread, wine, and cheese, is pretty expensive (oh, and gasoline/petrol is less expensive for some reason as well). And unless you know the radar traps, keep your speed in check!
