Worth visiting!

Untitled

An enjoyable town to visit or live in. Being on the edge of the desert, you have both desert and woodland nature nearby. ALso you have Bachelor Butte, Century Drive, the Deschutes River that goes through town.

A lot of good memories from this place

Unfortunately they are from the 60s! I imagine it has changed a lot. We went to school at Vanderberg Jr. High and lived just over the hill (I forget the housing area). Now this is a real good place for kid to grow up in. I remember seeing from our third floor baalcony the Greek chapel on the Nenoberg (sp?) on the other side of Wiesbaden.

Tamazunchale

Worth visiting!

Even less touristy than Xilitla, yet friendly

A couple hours Southeast from Xilitla, Tamazunchale has a lot to offer the plucky traveler. Get some sturdy shoes. This place is almost as up-and-down as Xilitla is. Markets, people carrying heavy loads with tumplines, wildlife, good food…you name it. If you are feeling really adventurous – like we did – you can devote several hours to ascending the Cerro de la Cruz by foot. Excellent scenery at several points on the way up the dirt roads. It would have been an excellent view for us at the very top – if it wasn’t for the clouds that were obscuring the town from us

NOTE: I misspelled the town in my title. It should be Tamazunchale (no “i”). I can’t seem to fix the error.

Things to see

Here are some things to see: Whitehead Museum (South Main Street), Lake Amistad (8-10 miles NW of here on 90), Old architecture on some of the residences of Spring Street and downtown, parks and riverwalks along San Felipe Creek. Downtown Del Rio (Main Street) from the tracks South is also worth seeing.

Just don’t try to find a Reformed Baptist church here…

Del Rio

Worth visiting!

Del Rio is worth visiting for some - and is a yawner for others

I wish there was an intermediate, or qualifying, choice between “worth visiting” and “not worth visiting”. It all depends on what you are looking for. I have lived in cities a lot bigger than this (New York, Wichita, Albuquerque) so don’t think I didn’t have anything to compare DR with when I gave it thumbs up. When you get older you appreciate some of the more subtle advantages of a place like this: less crime, good nature, proximity to Mexico.

Greenville

Worth visiting!

Lots to see and do here

Thanks to the presence of Bob Jones University and Clemson this city has a lot of cultural enhancements. There are also a good number of nature places for those of us who appreciate that. Being in the South, it can get quite hot and humid.

I haven’t been here since the 80s. A lasting visual impression I have of the place (aside from my years as a student at Bob Jones) is the presence of kudzu vines and other wild vegetation. The people are quite friendly.

Lake Amistad

Fishing, boating and birding at Lake Amistad

This place is especially famous for the first of those three. Fisherman from all over come here to compete.
