Mote Marine Laboratory, Sarasota

Mote

Mote was a nice side trip on our visit to Sarasota. There are tons of exhibits – dolphins, manatees, turtles, fish, shells, sharks, and more, spread between two buildings, and a short walk, including a street crossing, between. Unfortunately the cinema was down during our trip, which we were really looking forward to. Also, there are no automatic/button push doors, which can make it slightly difficult to navigate by wheelchair if you’re traveling alone.

Florida Botanical Gardens, Pinewood Cultural Park

Untitled

I’d had this on my list for a while, but got a tip that it was a nice place to sit and knit, so combine that and wanting to see their holiday lights (nice, but not exciting for the most part), and it became a priority.

On the whole, as far as actual flora goes, nearby Sunken Gardens in St. Pete beats FBG hands down. But for a peek into local nature FBG wins out with gorgeous water views and plenty of peaceful places to hang out. And with a price of free, that really does make it an ideal spot for nature lovers to sit and knit until dusk.
