Machu Picchu

Worth visiting!

A review of this place: An amazing place

I was at Machupicchu on Feb 28th of this year and I was amazed and overwhelmed. The ruins themselves are unbelievable and the setting is out of this world.

We got there before sunrise and were able to see the sun coming up behind the clouds. It was clear enough then for the sun to shine on the snow capped mountains to the west and we could see them clearly at times when the clouds didn’t block the view. The view into the river valley was clear and beautiful.

We were also treated to some misty clouds that obscured the view of Wynapicchu and the city ruins at times.

The crowds were light enough that I was able to see the ruins without a lot of people running around them for the first part of the day. As the day progressed I was still able to take pictures that only had the ruins in them with no people in the pictures.

Machupicchu is a truely magical place and I recommend anyone who has any desire to visit do so. Peru is a gorgeous country as well and you can have a great time there before and/or after visiting Machupicchu.

Yosemite Valley

What I want to do at this place

I’ve been to Yosemite many times and I look forward to going there this May. I got campground reservations and I’ll be climbing for two days and hiking and biking with my wife for two days.

I hope to do some climbs I’ve never done before this time.

New Jersey

I've accidentally been to New Jersey

I was staying in Philadelphia and was taking a drive past some of the historical sites. I accidentally got onto the bridge that goes to Jersey and had to drive there and back because there was no place to turn around. I’m not sure I need to return, but I don’t have anything negative to say about the state.

Texas

Not worth visiting!

One of the worst places I've ever lived

I didn’t like it here very much. I came from California to Texas in November of 1971 and moved back to California in June of 1972. I suffered the later half of my sophomore year of high school in Texas. I went from a very liberal, progressive school in California to one where they would send you home if you didn’t have a belt on.

There were some friendly people there, but there was also a fair amount of prejudice.

Since then I’ve been back to Houston a couple of times and stopped in San Antonio once.

I’d like to go to Austin to see the South by Southwest music festival, visit Heuco Tanks near El Paso, and I’d accept a free trip to San Antonio, but other than that I don’t have much interest in ever returning to the state.

United Kingdom

(in Europe)

Worth visiting!

Most of my time has been in London

I absolutely adore London and the area around it. I’ve stayed in London proper and outside of London in St. Albans. Both times I had a grand time. Taking the train or the tube to get around was easy and fairly resonably priced. I hope to get back there with my wife who’s never been.

Besides the London area I’ve also been to Cardiff in Wales, Stratford upon Avon and another place with a cool castle.

I hope to get to Scotland the next time I get back to the UK.

Arizona

Worth visiting!

I've been here a few times

I’ve been to the Grand Canyon twice, the Petrified Forest and Painted Desert once, been wine tasting outside of Tucson and driven through the state several times. I hope to get back there sometime in the near future.

India

(in Asia)

Worth visiting!

I spent 10 1/2 weeks in India in 1998

I was in Bangalore working for 8 weeks and spent the other 2 1/2 travelling through India mainly by train.

India has a lot of poverty, pollution, disease and filth. However if you can look past those problems there is a lot of beauty in India. The people are fantastic, the food is amazing, there are many diverse and exciting places to visit and it’s filled with culture, art and history.

I would go back to India at the drop of a hat if someone wanted to send me there. If it’s on my nickle, I’d choose to go other places first.

When I travelled from Bangalore, I visited New Delhi, Agra, Jaipur, Mumbai (Bombay), Mysore, Fort Cochin and Trivandrum. They were all very different and very interesting.

Idaho

Worth visiting!

I've been here twice and through once

A friend lived in Boise when I was a teenager. I visited him twice during the winter to ski at Bogus Basin. It was a great ski place. I’d like to go to Idaho again, but this time I’d like to backpack in the Sawtooth Winderness.

Washington State

Worth visiting!

Most of my time here has been spent in Seattle

I’ve been to Seattle five times, once on business and four times for fun. I’ve also been through Seattle on my way to the San Juan Islands. I’ve also driven through Washington from Montana and stopped for a little wine tasting.

The San Juan Islands are my favorite place in Washington. I like some things about Seattle, but it has a strange vibe to me. There’s lots of great art, some very good food and some beautiful views, but overall its not on my list of top ten cities.

I definitely want to go back to the San Juan Islands someday and also hope to get to Olympic National Park.

Oregon

Worth visiting!

I've been through Oregon more than actually having been there

I’ve been through Oregon three times, once on the homeward leg of a trip to Yellowstone and then twice in the way up to and back from Vancouver, BC.

I stayed in Lincoln City and then drove down the coast and it was very beautiful. I’d like to visit again and this time go to many of the wineries in Oregon.
