Followed the Tour de France in 2004. Paris was great… for a few days. Have lunch at a sidewalk cafe, check out a few tourist attractions, meet the people… then venture out. (Against the reputation, most people were nice, or at least polite during our visit… even though we didn’t speak French. Only one or two people seemed mildly annoyed by us… and no one was outright rude.) The Alps were nice… very relaxing. Reminded me a bit of Oregon, with MUCH bigger mountains. Southern France was great… only had one day there and would definitely like to go back.
