Orlando, Orange County

Untitled

Not my favorite place in the world, but there is a lot to do, there is no denying that. I’d just rather do most of the things in another city that is either more aesthetically pleasing or one that at least has a good transportation system. Driving in Orlando SUCKS!

Savannah, Georgia

Untitled

I agree with everybody saying that Savannah is beautiful because there really is no denying that. However- if you are going to visit a southern city, I would visit Charleston SC hands down. Savannah has wonderful planning for its downtown- the squares are beautiful and the waterfront is great to walk along. However- there just really isn’t much going on. There are some cool shops and restaurants but most of the things downtown are just kind of touristy… it needs a revitalization. I’m not saying it’s not worth going to Savannah- just make Charleston your primary destination, and make Savannah and day trip, stopping in Beaufort on the way down. That way you will get a lovely tour of the Lowcountry, but not be stuck for things to do.

Captiva, Lee County

Untitled

I was last on Captiva about two weeks before the hurricane hit, and I’m kind of afraid to go back, although I’ve heard it’s recovering. It is BEAUTIFUL here- I was lucky enough to go shark fishing once with some people I had met that day, and that was some of the most fun I’ve ever had. There are also tons of dolphins. It’s pretty interesting to go sit by Red Fish Pass because you are sure to see them hanging around the fishing boats, begging. My grandmother is a docent on Captiva Cruises- they do a dolphin cruise that is really neat because the dolphins will come right up and ride the boat’s wake. When I was there it was also possible to kayak over to North Captiva, which was really beautiful, but was also where the eye hit so I’m not sure how it would be now.

All in all- not super exciting. Don’t expect a lot to be going on. But DO expect to see lots of beautiful wildlife, and do go on all of the nature tours that you can. They are worth it.
