Another quickstop

After having driving between Nashville & Michigan several times I finally decided to do a walk through of Louisville. It’s pretty cool!

Quick day pass through

On one of my few road trips between Nashville & Michigan I stopped off here. Didn’t get to do much but it looks interesting. I think it might be worth the stop when I get a chance to do more browsing around.

You know your from Michigan if you've frequented Canada

Didn’t do much sight seeing. In the southeast region of Michigan where I grew up, more specifically-Pontiac, it’s a 30 minute drive. Back in the day I was kind of a club girl there was like one day a week our clubs didn’t offer under 21 so we’d hop on over to Canada. Of course this was in the days before everyone was freakin out about border “security” now I hear you need a passport, but don’t know that for a fact. Either way I’ve got mine so next time I go home to visit Michigan I will be checking out Canada in a different light then what I had known growing up.

Detour 400 Miles

Me & my bro stopped my here on our road trip from Michigan to Oregon. He was upset because it was nearly 400 miles of course in travelers time that is about 6 extra hours (in addition to our initial 32 hours & other detours I made us take :D). As soon as we got there we saw the mountains & a bison. Immediately then any doubt or regret i had considered passed. I loved it! It’s gorgeous. It was quite cold which got to my once michiganander skin but then nashvillian but I just threw on some extra layers & all was well. We only stayed for the day since I had to make it to Oregon in time for a new job. I definitely am camping there for a couple weeks when I decide to give up conventionality & live out of a backpack & tent. :) Highly recommend going. Oh and Old Faithful is a nice thing to do but don’t hold your breath in for the anticipation of excitement otherwise you might be a tad disappointed.

Nashville

Worth visiting!

Goin from "You guys" to "Y'all"

I just recently moved out of Nashville. I lived in Nashville for two years & absolutely fell in love with it. Of course like every place it has it’s good & bad but overall the people are great! They’re so friendly & inviting. Coming from the north before taking the plunge & blindly moving down there I had a lot of ill informed notions about it & a couple of fears. I thought it would be racist rednecks pluckin banjos around the clock with absolutely nothin to distract me from the impending hell(okay slight exaggeration but close). Boy was I wrong! There is a wide variety of people (in addition to the average white & black Americans-Mexicans, Kurdish, Uzbek, etc.) & a slight variety in scenes (old fashion south, urban, high society, college scene, new country, etc.). Overall the weathers great. THE SKIES ARE GORGEOUS!!!! They’re usually a beautiful deep sky blue with perfectly placed fluffy clouds. There’s a lot of great sites, ex: the Parthenon/centennial park (great place to spend a gorgeous day outside), The Frist Museum (great collections on display always), Cheekwood botanical garden(don’t wait till mid summer everything dries up & wilts :( ) & MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE- THE ZOO! It’s set up really nice-it’s compact in that there isn’t long distance walking but still lots of exhibits. The scenery at the zoo is very lush & imaginative. I spent a lot of time there. They have great music venues-always something going on pretty much everywhere. Just pick up their free paper, the Nashville scene or the other one(can’t remember the name) for up to date events. There are even some great trendy bars/night clubs that have absolutely nothing to do with country (if country ain’t your thing). By the time I left I got infected with the country bug. Oh and you have to check out the Opry Mills Mall-basic outlet mall but great design & they have a SANRIO & the Opryland Hotel. It know it sounds weird to visit a hotel you’re not staying at (& I can tell you you ain’t stayin at that hotel unless your wallet is pretty big) but the hotel is amazing! It’s like a mini city. It’s got water falls(literally), a revolving restaurant & a night club among many other things. They decorate it especially for the holidays too. I hope to make it back there someday.

Bonnaroo Music Festival

Worth visiting!

OMG!

Wow…simply wow. This was an amazing experience. The camping, the people and of course the music. I went alone because a firend bailed on me at the last minute but that was alright because there its like camping out with a community of friends even if you know absolutley no one. Everyone is soooo helpful and nice. Of course you’re going to see some odd things and people but the overeall atmosphere of the place is just “chilled”. I’m totally going back next year and hopeful all my years to come.

Rocked Out

This was an amazing concert. The line up was awsome: All American Rejects, Five Finger Death Punch,Finger Eleven, Paramore(who sound way better in person than on air) and many many more. The tickects wer cheap for a two day pass it was like $40. There was a wide range of people there including the elderly(but obviously young at heart) and the the young and even families. I wish I could go next year, but I’m going to have to save my vacation time for Bonnaroo(another amazing music venue)! I highly recommend this festival especially if you live in the Nashville Area.

Pontiac

Worth visiting!

Home is where the heart is

I was born and raised in Pontiac. It’s a nice place to live and visit relatives, but it’s not a travel destination. Many schools in the area as well as several colleges. The neighborhoods are rather diverse many whites, blacks, latinos, asians and of course “other”. It’s a rather small city, but everythings pretty convenient, it’s not one of those stock up on milk, bread and gas before 10pm, Meijers(Mega Mart) is open 24/7, several gas stations, Walgreens pharmacy, food joints, etc. The people can be a bit gruff but overall everyone is friendly just be sure to keep your head up. Considering the size of the city there’s a pretty good selection of night clubs(young, bump & grind types) and bars(chilled). And after the clubs hitting up Altadona’s, a family owned and run coney island type restaurant, after a long night of dancing is a must, but beware everybody knows this so you might wanna leave the club early to beat the crowd. It can get a little rowdy as the after clubber’s are typsy, still pumped from the clubs and hungry! But if you’re not easily intimidated it’s worth the wait and hassel.

Opry Mills Mall

Worth visiting!

Home of Hello Kitty

I’m a huge Hello Kitty Fan and as any Hello Kitty fan knows Sanrio stores are far and few luckily Opry Mills happens to have one! It’s the only one in TN and they have a great selection of Kitty & Friends. And the best part is since its an outlet they always have a large %50 off section :)

Philadelphia

Worth visiting!

Born & raised at the playground is where I spent most of my days...

No that’s not true, I was actually staying in King of Prussia on a business trip but couldn’t resist visiting Philly in my free time. Amoung the general upbeat atmosphere the city gave off I felt as though I had never left Nashville. The streets are a bit crazy, narrow and crowded. Two way streets are turned into one ways as large delivery trucks inhibit the flow of traffic forcing you to drive blindly into oncoming traffic while being berrated by the natives behind you that are irritated by your lack of willingnesses to be the blind leader of an involuntary game of chicken. It took a day to get used to. Parking garage rates are exorbitant but if you drive around a little and don’t mind doing a little extra walking you can find some decent prices. Great shopping on South street. I was a bit scared to enter the stores as they look pretty high end but the prices are decent (says this young up & coming but not quite there college student who doesn’t have parents that can pay her tuition nor an allowance). I especially liked this Mexican insprired trinket store and a consignment shop.

Oh and I didn’t notice a city name but somewhere between Philly and King of Prussia off the main highway there is a place that is lush and green and has a beautiful jogging trail.
