This place is awesome! I went there after a good 3 pints lunch at McSorley’s where nobody talked to me, and spent the rest of the afternoon chatting up artists and other local drunks. A guy even stood up and read a poem he had just composed, then everybody went off to prepare for an art show, carrying a plastic 1-gallon bottle of cheap vodka for the opening. Forget about the yuppie “dive bars”, this is the real thing.

Panzerotti are sort of ok, nothing to write home about, but ok. But you can get better ones without enduring a long queue like there often is at Luini.

This is universally known as one of the best sushi restaurants in Milan; most of the evenings most of the patrons are japanese. It’s not cheap at all, but being in a “regular” (i.e., not trendy) neighborood, it’s not outrageously either. Apart from the usual sushi and sashimi, I expecially recommend grilled fish; ask for the daily specials menu.

I’ve been in NL a few times now, always on short business trips, so I usually end up spending more time in Schiphol than in any nicer place.
Sooner or later I might even try leaving Schiphol and adventuring into Amsterdam… ;-)

I was there for just about 18 hours, but I was amazed at what I saw. I’ll be going back soon, so I’ll make sure to visit the old part.
And now, 3 weeks later, I’ve been back and gone around a bit on and around the canals, and I can really say I had a good time. It’s a nice place, if a little quiet.

OK, maybe it’s not the wildest place in the world (or in Cuba), but if you want to spend a few quiet days enjoying the sun, the beach and the people, than Cienfuegos is worth a visit. Plus, it’s a short drive from Bay of Pigs, with its historical places of interest but also its wonderful coast, a snorkeling heaven.
If you want to go there, I might help you find accomodations.

I haven’t been there long enough to really get to know it, but it’s a messy, noisy, ugly modern town with too many cars and way, way too many ladies offering cheap sexual services.
The nightlife is supposed to be great, but none of the clubs we passed (in the supposed best area for them) looked worth out while, so I can’t really comment on that.
