Edinburgh

Worth visiting!

How this place changed my life

I went to Edinburgh with my high school to perform an original musical production in late summer of 2006 at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Before actually setting off to Scotland, my group had spent the previous year writing, fine tuning, and finishing up all the final details of our entirely student written (well, the director added in his more unwanted tips, but asides from that) script. It had been a lot of work, and many of us had begun doubting if this trip were to be as great as everyone was trying to convince us it would be.

Months rolled past, rehearsals began and grew tougher each day. Memorizing lines, rehearsing dance numbers, practicing other various bits that would end up tying into the show. I personally had to write original solos for both the guitar and violin and memorize both for the show, as I was to be performing boht instruments during the musical. We were all growing more and more impatient with all the annoying hours we were stuck on our school’s campus during our priceless summer time. You can’t really blame us, though.

Finally, the days we had left in the U.S. grew shorter and fewer, and then the day we had been looking forward to arrived. The day we would fly out to the United Kingdom.

After arriving in Europe, of course, most of us were atwitter with the differeing culture, mostly the shopping as the majority of the group were young women, and just all the differences between the two places. This was just while we were in London. We didn’t get too settled, as just in two days, we were sent off on a train north to Edinburgh!

It was breathtaking.

There isn’t anything else I can say about Edinburgh. After just two weeks of living in the University of Edinburgh, I can’t help but feel a sense of pride for Scotland, and an even stronger one for the city itself. It’s a very youthful and funky town, with the perfect season changes and culture for me, personally. There is definitely something for everyone, especially if you’re under the age of 30, in this rich and full city.

I can’t wait to go back.
