Mount Vernon, Illinois

Untitled

Two summers ago, I went on a trip to Colorado with Young Life. On the way back, we stopped in Mount Vernon to eat dinner. Well, our bus was having some trouble before we stopped, but once we got to Mount Vernon, it wouldn’t start, and it was completely broken down. Well, this was great. We had been gone for over a week, and we all just wanted to be home. 50 high schoolers were on this bus when it broke down. So for two hours we all went to the Walmart across the street to entertain ourselves. The locals weren’t that friendly; in fact they looked at us like we were crazy. So we all went back to the bus to find out there was nothing they could do to fix it. They had to get a bus from FLORIDA to come and get us, which wasn’t going to be there until later the next day, about the time we were supposed to get home. We had to dig through all of our luggage in the middle of a parking lot to find all the things we would need for the night. We could leave the rest on the bus. Then we had to walk to the hotel we were staying in. Of course it was the one farthest from our bus. We passed three before we got to ours.

The next day we left around 11. The one good thing that happened was being able to sleep in a real bed and take a shower, since we wouldn’t have been able to on the Charter bus. I will always remember this place as long as I live. In fact, last summer my church went to St. Louis and we passed a sign for the exit for Mount Vernon. I texted one of my friends who was on the bus with me that trip. It will always contain memories with amazing people in my life.

Rockport, Essex County

I am in love with Rockport. If I were ever to live up north I would pick this town. The movie The Love Letter was filmed here.
