St Maarten, Netherlands Antilles
Culinary Capital of the Carribean
Just got back from a week in Sint Maarten and I know I must have gained a few pounds. You can’t swing a cat without hitting a good restaurant. From Lolo’s in Grand Case where the lobsters are cooked in an open air restaurant and grilled before your eyes to Les Boucaniers with the fantastic setting right on the beach (try the Bonito appetizer!). Mary’s Boon has a fabulous Sunday Brunch and the setting again, is gorgeous. If you don’t mind looking at crystal clear turquoise deserted beaches while enjoying a delicious lunch this is for you. On Market day, Wednesday, in Marigot there is a woman there selling spices make sure you pick some up. You can’t miss the fabulous smells coming from her booth and you MUST pick up some of the rum made directly on the island. The Banana rum is unbelievable as well as the Aphrodisiac rum made with orange and ginger.
